EMS Web Interface
What it is and How it Works
Instructions for accessing the on-line demo of EMS:
1) Open Internet Explorer (NOT Netscape)
2) In the Address field at the top of the window, enter:
_____________________/CHEMSAFE
(replace the blank line with the IP
address given to you by Chemical Safety—for example: 123.456.789.012/CHEMSAFE)
You will see the following window:
3) Click the Log In button on the left side of the screen.
On the login screen, enter:
Click the OK button, or just press ENTER.
4) The next screen will display a menu on the left side. Select the type of data you
wish to see by clicking on its button:

MSDS MODULE
5) Clicking on the MSDS button displays the following choices:

6) MSDS records provide information to satisfy the "Right-to-Know" requirement, and contain information vital to timely and safe response to emergency situations. The EMS system comes standard with over 4,000 MSDS records for common chemicals and products.
Chemical Safety provides updates to the EMS system as needed when regulatory information changes. These updates are included in the annual maintenance agreement.
7) Every module you access will display a FIND screen similar to the one below,
with different fields depending on the module.

To Search the MSDS database: just type in the first few characters of the word or number for which you are searching (Example: type in the letters WD and click the FIND button to see MSDS records for WD-40.)
To Search by more than one criteria, (Example: NAME and MANUFACTURER) just enter the criteria in the appropriate fields.
To see a list of available values for each field: Click on
the pop-up button to the right of the field. From the list displayed, click the
arrow to the right of the record to select this record for searching:

Your selection will appear on the main Search Criteria screen

Just click the FIND button to start the search.
The next screen will show the record(s) which match your search criteria.

If you clicked on the MSDS button, you will be asked to select the language for the MSDS.
The MSDS image you have selected will be displayed, in a standard Adobe Reader window.
Click on the button to the right of an MSDS record to display data from the database:

Click on the words Chemical Reference at the top of the MSDS screen to see Chemical Reference information
for this MSDS.
Click on Environmental to view US and European environmental and
hazard info for this record.

Click on Comp/Regs/MISC to view MSDS Composition records, regulation information,
synonyms, projects, and locations for this MSDS record.

On the Comp/Regs/MISC window, there are 4 choices:
Click on the Action button at the top right of the screen to see a list of options:

Click on the Records button at the top right of the screen to see a list of editing options for this record:

CHEMICAL REFERENCE MODULE
The EMS system comes with over 7,000 standard Chemical Reference records.
These records contain physical information, hazard information, regulation
information, and environmental information. To see the Chemical Reference
records, from the main menu select MSDS

This will display the Chemical Reference Search Criteria screen

The results of your search will be displayed. Click the button to the right of the
record you wish to view.

The main Chemical Reference screen is shown below

This screen has several tabs of data. Click on any of these to see the data on that
screen:

Click on Records at the top right of the screen to see a list of options for
this record:

Click the Main Menu link on the left side of the screen to
return to the Main Menu.
FACILITY MODULE
EMS tracks location information using a Facility hierarchy composed of three levels:
Facility records are used to identify individual companies. These records are then
associated with inventory and waste records. Data from Facility records is used
to complete state, county, or federal regulatory reports.
This is the main Facility screen:

The Facility screen has several tabs of data. Click on any of these to see the data
on that screen:

Page 1--General information such as: name, address, name of parent corporation
Page 2--Business hours, emergency contact information
Page 3--Federal
and State ID#s and Permit#s
BUILDING RECORDS
At the second level of detail in the facility hierarchy,
building records track information about various buildings within a facility,
including the names and phone numbers of responsible personnel for the building.
This will display the Building Screen:
MATERIAL INVENTORY MODULE
Inventory records track location as
well as quantity information about chemicals and other products. Inventory
information may be tracked down to the level of a specific container, including
the container’s barcode #. Inventory quantities can be updated either from
within EMS, or by uploading from a hand-held device such as a PDA or barcode
scanner. Inventory records maybe flagged as “Confidential”, which will enable
them to be seen ONLY by users who have the user right to see confidential
inventory data.
To View Material Inventory records, click on Materials from the main menu.

From the Materials menu, select Inventory or Container

The main Inventory screen contains Location and Product information fields.

There are three options at the top of this screen:

Container Information--information about specific containers
Inventory Detail--MIN, MAX, Y-T-D quantities for this product
As inventory records
are updated, the system automatically tracks Maximum, Minimum, and Average
Quantities, as well as year-to-date usage of this chemical or
product.
The Container screen contains the following information:

WASTE MODULE

The Main Waste Menu has the following selections:

This is an Accumulation Area Record, showing it's waste containers

WASTE ITEMS
This is the Waste Item/Lab Pack Item screen.

Click on Action at the top right of the waste item screen to see action items available:

WASTE DRUMS
This is the drum screen:
At the top of the drum screen there are three selections:

Drum--totals and shipping information for the drum
Drum Items/Lab Packs--individual containers or lab packs which were put into this drum
Drum Hazscan Items--Hazscan
items which were put into this drum
Click Action at the top right of the screen to display available Action items for this drum:

WASTE MANIFESTS
This is the main manifest screen

At the top of the Manifest screen are three selections:

Manifest--pickup, transporter, TSDF, and handling information for the manifest.
Manifest Item/Load--details about the individual line items for this manifest
Final Disposition--certificate of destruction information
