Web Interface
What it is and How it Works
Instructions for accessing the on-line demo of EMS:
1) Open Internet Explorer (NOT
Netscape)
2) In the Address field at the top of the window, enter:
http://demo.chemicalsafety.com/chemsafe
You
will see the following window:

3) Click the Log In button on the left
side of the screen. On the login
screen, enter:
Login ID: EMS Password: EMS (Not case sensitive)

Click the OK button, or just press ENTER.
3) The next screen will display a menu on the left side. Select the type of data you wish to see by
clicking on its button:
MSDS—view MSDS images in English as well as other languages, view
hazard and chemical reference information for the MSDS. MATERIALS—view Material Inventory information FACILITY—view Facility Management information WASTE—view Hazardous Waste information—waste items, drums, profiles, and
manifests. LOG OUT—to end your session and log out of the EMS Web Interface.

MSDS MODULE
4) Clicking on the MSDS button displays the following choices:
MSDS—view MSDS images in English as well as other languages, view data
from the database, display hazard labels for the MSDS. REFERENCE—view physical properties, hazard data for chemicals.

5) MSDS records provide information to satisfy the “Right-to-Know” requirement, and contain information vital to timely and safe response to emergency situations. The EMS system comes standard with over 4,000 MSDS records for common chemicals and products.
Chemical Safety provides updates to the EMS system as needed when regulatory information changes. These updates are included in the annual maintenance agreement.
5) Every
module you access will display a FIND screen similar to the one below, with
different fields depending on the module.
The default type of search for each field is usually: Clicking
the arrow next to this field shows other ways of searching: Contains Not Equal Blank Greater Than Less Than The
type of searches you can do will depend on the type of the field.
Begins With
Equal To

To Search the MSDS database: just type in the first few characters of the word or number for which
you are searching (Example: type in the
letters WD and click the FIND button to see MSDS records for WD-40.)
To Search by more than one criteria, (Example:
NAME and MANUFACTURER) just enter the criteria in the appropriate
fields.
To see a list of available values for each
field: Click on the pop-up buttonto the right of
the field. From the list displayed,
click the arrow to the right of the record to select this record for searching:

Your selection will appear on the main Search Criteria screen

Just click the FIND button to start the search.
The
next screen will show the record(s) which match your search criteria.

If you clicked on the MSDS button, you
will be asked to select the language for the MSDS.

The MSDS image you have selected will be displayed, in a standard Adobe Reader window.

Click on the button to the right of an MSDS record to display data from the database:

Click on the words Chemical Reference at the top of the MSDS screen to see Chemical Reference information for this MSDS.

Click on Environmental to view US and European environmental and hazard info for this record.

Click on Comp/Regs/MISC to view MSDS Composition records, regulation information, synonyms, projects, and locations for this MSDS record.

On the Comp/Regs/MISC window, there are 4 choices:
Regulations—Federal and State regulations for this product
Projects—Projects in which this product is used
Locations—Locations where this product is authorized for use
Click on the Action button at the top right of the screen to see a list of options:
Labels—display hazard labels for this MSDS MSDS Regulation—display regulations for this MSDS View MSDS—displays the MSDS image for this record Add to Favorites—adds this record to your list of favorites, for
easy retrieval.

Add—Add a new record Edit—edit the record you are viewing Save—save any changes you have made to this record Delete—delete this record Cancel—cancel and abandon any changes made to this record Print—prints a report of the data for this record
Click on the Records button at the top right of the
screen to see a list of editing options for this record:

The EMS system comes with over 7,000 standard Chemical
Reference records. These records
contain physical information, hazard information, regulation information, and
environmental information. To see the
Chemical Reference records, from the main menu select MSDS

On the next screen, select Chemical Reference

This will display the Chemical Reference Search Criteria screen
Enter your search criteria in one or more fields, then
click the Find button at the top of the screen.![]()

The results of your search will be displayed. Click the button to the right of the record you wish to view.

The main Chemical Reference screen is shown below

This screen has several tabs of data. Click on any of these to see the data on that screen:

Page 1—Hazard Information
Page 2—Physical properties, storage requirements, special handling equipment and fire-fighting equipment required.
Page 3—OSHA Hazard Information
Environmental—Hazard classes and labels for the US and Europe
Regulations/Synonyms—Regulations and synonyms for this product
Click on Records at the top right of the screen to see a list of options for this record:
Add—Add a new record Edit—edit the record you are viewing Save—save any changes you have made to this record Delete—delete this record Cancel—cancel and abandon any changes made to this record Print—prints a report of the data for this record

Click the Main Menu link on the left side of the
screen to return to the Main Menu.
FACILITY MODULE
EMS tracks location information using a Facility hierarchy composed of three levels:
FACILITY
BUILDING
Facility records are used to identify individual companies. These records are then associated with inventory and waste records. Data from Facility records is used to complete state, county, or federal regulatory reports.
Select
the record to view by clicking the button to the right of the record:

This is the main Facility screen:

The Facility screen has several tabs of data. Click on any of these to see the data on that screen:

Page 1—General information such as
Page 2—Business hours, emergency contact information
Page 3—Federal and State ID#s and Permit#s
At the second level of detail in the facility hierarchy,
building records track information about various buildings within a facility,
including the names and phone numbers of responsible personnel for the
building.
Select
the record to view by clicking the button to the right of the record:


To View Material Inventory records, click on Materials from the main menu.

From the Materials
menu, select Inventory or Container
Inventory—all containers of the same chemical,
stored at the same location, are grouped together under a single Inventory
record. Container—this option displays details of individual
containers


You
will see a list of records which match the criteria you entered. Click on the button to the right of the
record to see the full record.

There are three options at the top of this screen:

Inventory—location and product information
Container Information—information about specific containers
Inventory Detail—MIN, MAX, Y-T-D quantities for this product
As inventory records are updated, the system automatically tracks Maximum, Minimum, and Average Quantities, as well as year-to-date usage of this chemical or product.
The Container screen contains the following information:

The Main Waste Menu has the following selections:
Accumulation Inventory—all waste containers located in a specific
accumulation area/storage area. Item—waste item or lab pack item records. Drum—waste drum records Manifest—waste Manifest records Profile—waste Profile records

From
the list of found records, click the button to the right of the record to
view details for that record:
This is the Waste Item/Lab Pack Item screen.

Click on Action at the top right of the waste item screen to see action items available:
Waste Item Labels—displays labels for this record Transfer to Drum—transfer this item to a drum Transfer to Accumulation Area—transfer this item to an accumulation
(storage) area
This is the main manifest screen

At the top of the Manifest screen are three selections:

Manifest—pickup, transporter, TSDF, and handling information for the manifest.
Manifest Item/Load—details about the individual line items for this manifest
Final Disposition—certificate of destruction information
Click Action at the top right of the screen to see the Manifest Action items available:
Display DOT Labels—display/print DOT labels for this manifest
